Jeb Bush is a devout Catholic. Except that the Catholic Church opposes wars of choice. (Jeb Bush: I was against Vietnam- for myself! Almost registered as a "Conscientious Objector"!) Jeb still support's invading Iraq and Afghanistan. He wants a bigger war vs. Isis and regime change in Iran. Except that the church opposes the Death penalty. Jeb Bush has approved the executions of 21 people. Except that the pope says "caring for our neighbor, for those who are poor... for those who are in need... is the touchtone" of Christian Faith. "It is the gospel." Jeb wants lower taxes for the rich, privatized schools, and a gutted social safety net. (Jeb Bush: I go to mass sometimes.) (Except he never listens.)

Sounds like my neighbors. My taxes are supposed to pay for their kids’ public education and their parents’ amusement at the publicly supported senior citizen’s center, but their taxes shouldn’t pay for anyone’s social safety net.

Not a fan of Bush or the Catholic Church, but let’s just point out that the doctrine of the legitimate use of the Death Penalty has been held up in Christian thought very rigorously throughout history.

“Thou shalt not kill,” does not seem to me to leave a lot of wiggle room. Many so-called Christians are hypocritical when it comes to war and capital punishment. Superstitious nonsense!

I should make it clear that I am making 2 separate comments, one about Christian hypocrites and one about religion in general.

If Pelosi can say “I’m Catholic” despite supporting abortion, I don’t see any problem with Jeb saying the same.

We have not come to praise Jeb, but to bury him….
