    Gene tell Mary Lou she can man the post hole diggers. Actually another pair of hands would help. Make a second coop.

    It’s something about Mary Lou’s character I just don’t like. I could easily see a story line where ML is killed off and Gene has to raise Meg by himself.

    Mary Lou is an alpha type personality and is very driven. she has the Calvinist notion that relaxation is wasted time. it nearly drove Gene off once before and may do so again. what happened to Gus and the sale of the diner and his other property? Mary Lou was going to come into some money after that deal was done. they talked about going to Paris. it is in the end Gene’s fault for choosing Mary Lou and taking on raising someone else’s kid.

    As someone commented back awhile ago, her Facebook followers could be anywhere and not necessarily located near enough to buy eggs. How soon will the chicks be hens, anyway? If they all survive. Raccoons and foxes love snatching a nice plump hen. (My friends have lost a few in a small town to a raccoon.)

    By the looks of things, Gene doesn’t want more suggestions, he wants a tall, cold drink.

    @comicsssfan You’re either divorced or never married…

    Not to worry Gene. If you need a bigger coop later, then you build a bigger one later and turn this one into a brood bard to raise your own chicks.

    When you’re a small farmer/businessman, if you have the time to build it yourself, then you build it yourself. If the project doesn’t end up cheaper, then it ends up better. Either way, you’re ahead.

    Just put them in the yard and call them “free range”! That is if you don’t mind stepping on chicken poop and chasing off coyotes and Bobcats.

    A chicken coop can only have 2 doors. If it had 4 doors it would be a chicken sedan.

    If Mary Lou is mainly talking about what’s in panel 1— I’d have to say that for a 20-something, physically-fit man, digging 6 holes with a post-hole digger and pouring in the cement, isn’t really THAT much work. Shouldn’t be enough to make him “beat”. Though maybe we’re supposed to assume he did a lot of other work in addition to that?
