As a kid, we had a dachshund/poodle cross who loved to lie belly-up in the sun. Her tummy was pink in the winter but would turn blue-black in summer. Hottest day of the year, she’d lie there toasting herself, fur coat notwithstanding.
It’s actually possible, especially if the fur is black. I’ve had black cats who have had sunburns. They stay out of the sun, they would have nice glossy black fur. Spend a lot of time in the sun their fur would start turning burnt umber in color. A tan was just a slight brownish tinge to their fur. Not a more reddish tinge.
Actually, I have done that with my phone. I always check now to make sure it is charging.
