Petey: Lunch is ready. You have to come home. Alice: Nobody is listening to me play the toy ukulele. Petey: Immune to the indifference of the masses, the true artist pursues his or her art in bitterest solitude, compelled only by the irresistible tidal pull of the creative impulse. Alice: Heck with that. All I did was turn the crank so the noise'd come out. Petey: You weren't very good at it either.

Oh, Petey, you are such a supportive big brother. While you’re at it, why don’t you mention that her hair is standing up in the back? I’m sure she’d love you for it.

Wow! What a speech in panel 2, Petey! Indeed, that panel could stand alone and serve as a reminder in many art schools (including all kinds of creative and performing arts). Meanwhile, in panel 3, Alice has shattered my illusions, for I had thought she was actually playing (at) her toy ukulele. I did not know it was a cranky player-uke!

Alice has left the manhole cover. Thank you and good night.

Yeah. You have to turn the crank at a steady speed, or Polly Wolly will sound all wonky.

And to think I spent 5 years trying to master the guitar; should’ve gotten one with a crank. ;-)
