Okay, kid, 1 - “smart” has very little to do with power tools, 2 - your mother is a lot smarter than you are, 3 - it’s better to keep your mouth SHUT if you don’t know the exact words for something.

    @ejcapulet -

“smart” has a LOT to do with power tools if you want to keep all your fingers, etc…

Always been pretty handy with tools, and my oldest daughter is as well. Not all females are “stupid” in the tool department, just like not all men are “stupid” in the kitchen! (and the two of us shine in both areas !!)

Don’t be smart with your mother, Michael.

Women are just as capable, (if not more so in some areas) as men. They may lack strength for some jobs, but one only has to read history to find that women are equal to the task. Take WWII war production. Planes, tanks ships, all manner of small arms and ammunition of every size were manufactured by women. They drove trucks, flew planes (bombers and fighters) did construction and any of the jobs that were left vacant by those men who went to war. Never underrate a woman.

Why is she drilling into a water pipe? Did she check.? Would you you? Smart? Ever come home to a kitchen full of water? “Your tools are in the junk drawer, mine in the basement.” Have I ever tangled up your sewing machine? That is a $200 torque wrench, not a hammerithing..

So! This strip is about various forms of stupidity and ignorance and not about all those wonderful every day opportunities to learn something you didn’t know you didn’t know?

Don’t worry Mike, this isn’t the last time you will put foot firmly in mouth. Life is full of these learning experiences. And as we who have enjoyed FBOFW the first time around know, you turned out to be a pretty cool dude!

And Ellie, trust me, he’s learning!

How much did she pay for that? Even the cheap ones always came predrilled.

She’s not that smart. She’s drilling into the floor boards underneath, from the looks of it.

I don’t see any water pipes and she probably has a 2 x 4 or something under the door in case she makes a mistake and presses too hard.. You don’t have to raise it very much to avoid a mistake. Those many years ago if you bought really cheap (I did) they would mark the holes but you had to drill them. For cabinet hinges you also did not drill all the way through. They would show on the other side. Please give Elly a break. She is doing her best just like I did.

Happy &#$ %(&@ Monday, Everyone. MrsLuke: You sound like your feeling left out… Don’t worry, everyone still hates you. (Please know that I’m joking)

I’m going out on a limb, today: I LOVE ELLY!!

Yes, she is smart, but look at her surprised look that someone noticed.

This page of comments is disgusting. You’re pirhanas. I flagged you littledutchboy. I hate coming here. The persistent harassment of real people ruins the comics. Who is this lady bothering that she deserves this daily flogging? Get a life.

    Very simple very wonderful comic.

Little boy has the privilege and honor of having his eyes opened by a competent momma.

Momma has the dubious honor of hearing little boy’s incredulous comment.

Little boy and momma have the good fortune to be together in a trusting relationship.

Did it ever occur to anybody that just maybe Ellie built the cupboards and that drilling the holes was one of many steps?

Wow!, coming from a 6-year old that is quite a compliment! If it was from John, it would be a different story but from Michael, it’s cute. I don’t think we can really tell how Elly takes it, but she isn’t yelling at him.

    mroberts88,

    I’ll second that.

Women are capable of doing almost anything a man can.

I joined here to enjoy my favorite comics strips. My experience is being destroyed by you miserable people who gang up on some individuals and harass them. You think you’re cool by doing it, but you’re the ones who should leave. You don’t even know the difference between reality and a comic strip.

The point is, first of all Michael confuses skilled with smart. Good opportunity for Elly to point out the difference, with a short lecture on the value of using the right word. (Well, I don’t know if short lecture is her strength, but it’s worth trying.)

Secondly, good opportunity to ask him why he’s so surprised. More likely to be because she’s a woman, and women don’t do such things, than that it’s specifically Elly as an individual. They could have a good discussion here. Lecture not so appropriate - let Mike express his ideas.

I think Michael’s just being a typical 6-year-old boy! Girl’s aren’t supposed to know how to use a drill because that’s a “boy’s toy” ….. dolls and such are “girls toys”! So, for a girl (in this case, his mom) to know how to use a power drill that he’s probably only ever seen his dad use, then she must be smart!!!!!

You know, in my house, I am the one with the tool box and power tools. I don’t know if my husband has any idea what some of them are even for. But get him playing with his kids and you’d think that there was never a better man born! Not many people have the patience for “Mr. Brown Can Moo” a dozen times in a row, yet my husband will do it for my youngest.
