The arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward... A rainbow extends from Washington D.C. and lands on Alabama Justice Roy Moore, who deflects it with his gavel while standing on The Bible. Man: Justice? Roy Moore?
I saw a news clip yesterday about counties in Alabama refusing to issue marriage licenses to anyone now, gay or straight. Now that’s what I call a hissy fit!
To make its point better, the art needs to have a different angle for Moore hitting the rainbow: it really does look like he’s hitting himself at the same time. To make its point more accurately, the art needs to show Moore standing, not on a Bible, but on his own raging ego.
The reason that some local counties are not issuing any marriage licenses is not a protest. It’s because they can be held personally liable for violating the constitution if they block the freedoms of only certain American citizens. That pesky equal protection of the law clause. They want to keep being bigots, but they don’t want to be sued; so NO ONE gets to get married. It’s the modern equivalent of closing all of the public schools to keep out the black kids.
“That first line was a joke, by the way.”I picked up that you were making a joke, but one could read it as you using the word “gay” in a negative connotation. In the spirit of not posting the same post across multiple cartoons, you can read my reply on Jim Morin’s Feb 11 cartoon page.
“When I use gay that way, I am using it the same way Bill Eichner does on “billy on the street” from “funny or die”.Or Joan Rivers or any person that truly loves gays would use it. It’s only on the internet that I could offend a gay person I think. I’ve never had the problem in real life. My friends are funny.”Right, except those are audio/visual jokes. Reading plain text on the internet can lead to confusion if not set up correctly.

Gay marriage is church business, all levels of government should stay out of it.

Next comes polygamy. Fathers and daughters, etc. etc.
