A far more common image. While I dislike the “militarization” of police in recent years, the VAST majority are there to protect and serve, and too many pay the ultimate price, without nearly the press criminals get.

It’s too bad the critical public isn’t as color blind as they expect cops to be. And they don’t have to deal with the worst of us on a daily basis.

btw: 114 police officers were killed in the U.S. this year. How many got weeks of national coverage in the press, and demonstrations to end violence against police?

Many of the worst of us wear a badge. Probably the same percentage as the public at large, but they aren’t held accountable.

There used to be saying about all what you just written; a bad apple will spoil the bushel. And I didn’t even read what you wrote.

All it takes is three things: two people and one will to peace. Very seldom in the same place at the same time.

Pea: from years ago I have letters I got (to me or about me) when in law enforcment. I’ve only kept about 10 of the ones condemning me for writing citations or arresting someone. I have one I treasure written by kids who I pulled from a wrecked car on Thanksgiving day, when I set them up with a place to stay with their parents, and had my Thanksgiving at 4 a.m. the next morning when I finally got home. That’s pretty representative of the raito of letters for a GOOD “cop” who truly believed public service meant bad people do suffer consequences, but taking care of good people is the biggest part of the job.

I agree that bad cops shouldn’t stay on the force, but long experience shows that far fewer people are willing to “clean up” their own act, when it’s so much easier to attack the cops for making them. (and that comes from ALL socio-economic and racial factions!)

..I don’t believe the price for selling cigarettes illegally is death. The choke hold the cops used was deemed illegal to use by the NYPD.Should of the cops penality have been death?
