The Texas state mentality monument. (But you don’t have to be mentally competent to get to the top.)

The problem is that more modern criminal forensics keep finding (through such methods as DNA) some that ARE innocent still in prison for crimes they were innocent of. Even this is not right, but execution is so very ppermanent, so just what does the state (any state, not just Texas) do then?

Besides which, I can not personally imagine a worse sentence than life in prison without even the possibility of ever being parolled!

I’m against the death penalty simply because you can’t resurrect your mistakes. But ISIS doesn’t (in their opinons) make mistakes.. Moronic message in this cartoon…

this cartoon is based on a false premise.ISIS murders unlawfully, to inspire terror in peaceful residents of an area ISIS wants to seize and rule under barbaric sharia law.-The USA follows God’s command in the Bible to lawfully accuse and allow defense and then a “jury” decides if the accused is guilty of a death penalty crime; then the sentence is carried out in the most humane method available. The death penalty is only for the most serious crimes against other humans who have done nothing to harm the killer. It is for murder, outside the rules of established laws.

God also commands those who have unruly children to take them to the town square to get stoned to death. There are many reasons to smite in the Bible..

So Matt, what do you call the serial killers and premeditated murderers? beautiful, tinny little angels. Their mommies and daddies abused them, and that they never had a choice on their actions. Wake up, if you happened to be in their way you’ll be minced meat too.

ISIL cuts the head off, and in a very brief time, under a minute, all conciousness is lost. “Humane” executions typically take at least a half hour, actually. Hanging, guilotine, and firing squads are all far faster, and “more humane” actually.

As you can’t take the needle out if you’re wrong, or put the head back on, or unbreak the neck, life without possibility of parole does allow errors to be caught, even if in a recent case of a guy released after 33 years, when the “witness” recanted, and the physical evidence was actually looked at, for the FIRST TIME!

I love the “turn the other cheek Christians”, who want it turned so they can put a bullet in that one too…

BTW: arrested a guy who had 9 wants from 9 states out for murder (including four cops), and he was hoping the feds would send him to a death penalty state, as he’d been in prison and didn’t want to spend a long time back in that “life”.

My wife’s grandgather was a guard at San Quetin, those there serving life without parole were NOT “happy campers”.

My view is quite simple: the death penalty is barbaric and should be eliminated. I go with my man John Adams here in paraphrase, which is that we should be prepared to release a hundred guilty people rather than execute a single innocent. We KNOW we have executed innocent people. It is clear that the system is not certain enough to enact such an ultimate penalty, and given our system is designed explicitly to assume innocence until proven, it is entirely consistent to suspend the death penalty until certainty can be obtained — which is unlikely, I admit.

It is a thoroughly unChristian act as well, as even a momentary examination of the New Testament should indicate: it is said EXPLICITLY that Christ’s death obviates the need for any other sacrifice. Why we should be doing essentially the same barbaric act as the Romans (chemical execution is not unlike crucifixion in terms of the degree of pain and in some cases even the time it takes) baffles me.The Catholic Church is against the death penalty; true pro-life organizations are against abortion, the death penalty, and euthanasia. Citing the Old Testament as Biblical support for capital punishment willfully ignores the entire thrust of the New Testament and the Christian doctrine of “love your neighbor,” even (or especially) when he is your enemy.

Furthermore, if you look at the company the US keeps, we are not all that far from ISIS, indeed. Only 20% of UN member or observer states have capital punishment at all.According to Amnesty International, the top execution states in 2013 were as follows:China (unknown but high)Iran (369+)Iraq (169+)Saudi Arabia (79+)USA (39)Somalia (34+, more or less)Sudan (21+)Yemen (13+)

Meanwhile, EVERY country in Europe except one (Belarus) has banned it outright. (Russia technically retains it, but the Council of Europe prohibit it from actually doing any.)What company do YOU want to keep?

logicalone you would be surprised how many of those executed are innocent. Those executed are from poverty and many are easy to frame. In many cases the star witness is the real killer. The death penalty is barbaric and a form of genocide.
