We won’t punish the cops who threw a flash grenade in a baby’s crib, but NEXT TIME they decide to use the SWAT guys to serve a warrant, they’d better give us their empty promise to be careful before they go in.
A truly disturbing incident. They pulled the driver over for not wearing a seatbelt. Illegal, but not dangerous. The passenger they pulled from the car and tasered WAS wearing a seatbelt. They were yelling at the occupants to get out of the car. I don’t get pulled over often, but when I am, I am always advised (ordered in some cases) not to leave the car.
Some people should lose their badges. Soon. It makes it bad for all the good cops, who have enough problems.
The kids in the back seat filmed the whole “seat belt” incident. BTW amazing how many out of state plates will get you pulled over, regardless of race, in many areas of “policiing”.
Which, what I’m seeing at the same time is that the GOOD police departments are welcoming and using cameras on their cops for documentation of both the performance of the cops, AND the detainees. Had the video of Rodney King been shown from THE BEGINNING, or that and many other such tapes be played with their AUDIO ON, a lot of perps, not just cops would quickly lose support of the media and public.
Good cops, like good members of the public, don’t mind having their interractions on video, just in case.
I had an interesting conversation with my wife’s 8 year old second-cousin. We attended a family party and family from far & wide came along, the young lad coming from Kufstein, Austria. When I was introduced and my accent being so pronounced, he asked me where I was from. When I told him, he seemed very surprised and delighted. Then frowned and asked “why aren’t you dark skinned if you are from Africa”. I simply explained not everyone from Africa was dark-skinned. After a couple minutes chat I established that he had class-mates with heritage from other countries and simply pointed out that they too were from Austria & European and not necessarily from India or Africa. And thus an 8 year old learnt new things without much fanfare or nonsense. With my daughter so far I have managed to avoid using skin colour as a differentiator. If I’m pointing out someone who happens to be of a different skin colour, I describe their clothes, not their skin-tone. In any discussion with her I’ve never referred to anyone as “white” or “black” and I hope my daughter will never use skin-tone to distinguish anyone. While it is possibly naive for me to think this, I can only hope. Racism caused so much hardship while I was growing up that I want it eliminated within my daughter’s lifetime.

He knows you are transporting drugs. He will find a weapon somewhere in the car.
