Wrong, from a GI. It is expected that the Commander In Chief returns the salute of the men he commands. The military salute is a sign of mutual respect that goes both ways.

Presidents have saluted military personnel since Ronald Reagan started the practice in 1981, and the tradition has been continued by Clinton and both Bushes. What is it about this president that makes you so suddenly offended?

I find it interesting that the people who get outraged over the perception that Obama didn’t show due respect to a member of the military themselves strive to show disrespect and downright bile towards Obama.

Could you be any more trivial in your complaints? Oh, yeah, I forgot. You’re conservative and that’s ALL you can do.

Bush 43 was not in the military. Being AWOL from the Texas National Guard does not count.

While I agree with your comment in principle, Mr. Fredickson, in fact, the list of examples wherein conservatives have shown disrespect for the office of the President begins with Joe Wilson yelling “You Lie!” during the state of the union address. From the moment Mr. Obama was elected, there has been a visible and tangible effort on the part of conservatives to disrespect Mr. Obama regardless of his post as one elected by a majority of our neighbors. He should have saluted properly but Conservatives should have been supportive of the bills he proposed based on ideas first proposed by conservatives. From Marco Rubio’s own immigration plan, to “Romneycare”, the conservatives chose to block all bills that might make Mr. Obama look like he was accomplishing something and instead, with the help of Harry Reid’s own obstructionism, ground our nation to a halt and made this last eight years a legislative joke, nationally, and internationally. Had Republicans given Mr. Obama a chance to show his ideas might work, I could be more supportive of my conservative neighbors’ complaints, but since the only “jobs” bills passed called for a repeal of the ACA and/or other proposals the Dems opposed, since no dedicated bills for improving our economy have been presented without unacceptable conditions or riders, I must hold my nose and continue to support the party of "least harm’.Sadly,C.

When a “butter bar” with two days in-country started chewing me out for not saluting him, I pointed out, with a degree of demonstration, that we didn’t salute officers in the field as it could get them killed. He didn’t listen, until my Colonel pointed out with vehemence, and the fact that a gold bar didn’t make him either a gentelman, or above idiot level.

Question: If Reagan was the first President to salute back, then what about Eisenhower? Supreme Commander of WWII Allied Forces. A General who knew military rules and regulations. Bet he didn’t salute while President.

I am reminded of the time when Mr. Obama was a candidate, and was introduced to the crowd by his wife. As she left the podium and he approached, they did a fist bump.

Megyn (or however she spells her name) Kelly on Fox that evening, as the video was rolling in the background: “Terrorist Fist Jab?”

    Indeed. Tempest in a teapot.
