The cold water challenge isn’t just idiotic, it’s also become lethal. At least one participant has died in the quest to produce the stupidest possible video (when an excavator with a shovelful of water tipped over).

I do not agree that the challenge is idiotic. Perhaps dreaming up increasingly complex and dangerous methods of administering is, but the challenge itself has done something that has proved elusive till now. It has made millions not only aware of ALS but also willing to donate. More money has been donated to ALS research in just a couple of months than in the past several years.

“Beyond asinine?” Perhaps, but with all the attention ALS as a cause is getting… sounds like it’s working.

I see a bucket over her door in the near future; let’s see how amused she will be then.

I lost a childhood friend and an acquaintance of over 40 years to ALS. It is a massively sucky way to go, and it’s amazing how fast it can wreck your body.

While I applaud the cause, I have to wonder if these same people can be talked into a “Hit your head with a hammer” challenge to save the spotted unicorn…
