I started out my working life as a teacher of 7th graders. One time, while in the grocery store, I encountered one of my students and his mother. He looked so surprised to see me doing something other than teaching, and I got a good laugh out of it. Not in front of him, of course, but later.

The people who used to be called “dog catchers” are now called “animal control officers”. I think the newer term is a better description of teachers.
