Grandma’s heart was in the right place but maybe she oughtn’t to have done that. Kids have to learn that the world has a lot of jerks and Miss Avis is one of them. They need to sound the alarm to every kid they know that Miss Avis doesn’t pay her debts so the next time she needs work done, don’t volunteer unless you want to do it for free.
