Voices: Paying taxes violates our religious freedom! Equal pay for women is heresy! Unions are the work of Satan! Government oversight is a mortal sin! Minimum wage? Blasphemy!!!
This editorial cartoon is a bit on the extreme side perhaps. But the point is well taken. If nothing else the decisions of the supreme court opens up a Pandora’s box of law suits, silly or otherwise.
What may be the greatest irony of all, is that this will create even more work for our already vastly overworked court system, including the supreme court itself!!
You actually made me laugh out loud this morning. Well done!
Of course that quote is from Ginsberg’s dissent and says that’s ‘exactly’ what will happen.
But what a good idea to put “We do not hold” in front of it, since you know that people, in fact, do NOT do that modicum of research and you can get away with it.
A little research has revealed that a single ‘p’ is the American spelling, and ‘pp’ is British. However, the doubling does not follow the general rule that the ‘p’ is not doubled after a syllable that is unstressed. No wonder that there is some confusion…I believe that both are acceptable in the U.S.
The Supremes did NOT hold that their ruling did not apply to larger corporations – they just said that they were not deciding that issue now because it wasn’t properly before them. That means that they could find religious freedom for larger entities too now that they are “people”.
