No sympathy from grandma here. Holly consider yourself in a nice home. While others even like Haiti they now have nothing and trying to survive.
Holly could work with her dad small stuff part time not against child labor laws either and not every day.
A place I worked at 28 years ago. parents would bring their kids in to earn a little money help bagging small products. They got tired of this. They where not over worked either.
She could get a job delivering papers! Unless, of course, she lives in a town like mine that stopped printing a daily paper, and now requires the twice-weekly delivery folks to be over 18 and own a car… Maybe that could be the story arc. Holly gets a job delivering papers, then the paper stops printing and she’s out of work before age 12 (wait, how old is she? it’s my son that got his first pink slip at age 11…)
Well, Holly is a spoiled whiny middle class American kid, but she’s not the only one, and it’s not particularly her fault - she was born here. Like many others. Americans have no perspective on what normal daily life is in most of the rest of the world. Have you noticed how new immigrants to the US work very hard and push their kids very hard to succeed academically? Holly has always struck me as particularly whiny and entitled, however, but her family enables her. For a more extreme example, see the Edge City comic at SF Gate.
fbjsr she’s looking for an easy job that requires little effort with good pay. if she was ernest in earning money she would baby sit. but if she wants a good easy job that pay she should go into politics.
fbjsr, Holly says she’s “desperate”, but is rejecting the one job she’s been offered and for which she’s qualified. That’s like saying “I need to eat something or I’ll just DIE!” but, upon being offered a plate of beans or something, turning your nose up because you wanted a burger.
Did the black ink wear off over the last 5 years (newspaper joke)? I only see color with no outlines or text! The comments make me think this panel might be important to the story line.
