Our pets (particularly dogs) can be a great help to fight depression. If you want to experience unconditional love and acceptance, a dog is your best friend.

In almost every case where a human gets bitten by a dog a human is to blame (not necessarily the person who got bit).

As a kid I had a pet dog ironically named Snoopy. I was 12 when my parents brought him home and aghast that my dog was a poodle, but we developed such a bond that often when I came home from a horrible day at school and sat depressed at our kitchen table, Snoopy seemed to sense it and he’d go get a tennis ball and drop it in my lap so I could play with him by tossing it. We had Snoopy for over 10 years and he’s been gone for 30. I still miss him. Best pet I ever had.

Snoopy can fly a Sopwith Camel and engage in dogfights with the Red Baron, but he can’t use a can opener. There must be a lesson in there somewhere……..

Having responsibilities can be a good thing — gets you out of the dark room and back into real life.

Taking care of a pet is a way to stay connected. Good for children and adults.
