The Rank and File are myopic and would vote for the devil if he promised them jobs. The Internationals are just plain corrupt. I’ve been a union man for 35 years and, needless to say, not very popular when I point this out.
To me, isn’t this sort of saying that “there is strength in groups”? Bigger groups are able to negotiate what they pay for what they get. The individual (Joe 6 pak) is just a number.
My dad’s union. Only problem is, stupid union keeps asking for their dues and they ain’t given him a job in over a year.
But if he goes non-union where the jobs actually are, he loses his pension and insurance coverage, and he has a serious neck pain that needs constant care.
So now we’re taking on boarders to make ends meet. Yippee. Total strangers living in my house.
Yes, exactly. Only through government regulation can Joe six-pack buy in to the same system that Union labor gets. Put us all on the same plan that Congress gets!
Unions represent 8% of the work force. The big insurance companies on the shirt go WAY beyond “monopoly” in many regions, so I don’t see the link at all between the hat and the shirt- and Joe is bar-coded so he can go straight from voting for his “conservative” interests to the unemployment office.
Obama has governed as President the same way Chicago has been governed for years. Reward your friends and punish your enemies.
I find Dr Canuck’s comments really amusing. The strength of a union is keeping its membership down to acceptable levels to provide work for all. If everyone got in, wages would fall and the unions know that. Try being black and getting into any one of hundreds of unions. This week there is a new lawsuit asking the NYC firemen to start to hire blacks and let them too join a union.
^If everyone was unionized we’d have a living wage, outsourcing would never come to pass, and everything would be to Pre-Reagan standards. Colleges would be free or near free and jobs would be in abundance. We would not have too big to fail or Casino style investments and hedge funds. Heck health care would be free to all.
And I know a few black workers who are unionized and they have no complaints what so ever.
Also your lawsuit is based on discrimination, which is still around like it or not:
There is a certain amount of nepotism involved in joining some unions. That being said, as long as it’s kept on a right to work for less vs union, conservative vs liberal, or Christian vs atheist basis, the only ones to win are the offshore bankers who really pull the strings. Put your differences aside and confront the real enemies of Liberty.
I’m not sure that I follow this cartoon. The unions, including mine, are up in arms because Mr Obama’s plan now is to put a hefty tax on the benefits we’ve worked hard to earn. We’ve surrendered wage increases in order to keep our “cadillac” health insurance. Now, instead of having higher withholding for premiums, we’re going to be taxed through the nose.
D_leg, the union wages and philosophies are what CAUSED outsourcing. Sorry my brothers, but we all know many loafs we have to cover for because they know they do not have to produce. They are who hurt our negotiations.
Ken, can’t follow a word you said. The unions don’t want to deny anything from anybody. We just want what we’ve earned. We encourage others to earn theirs too.
You sure about that Loco? It had nothing to do with NAFTA, GAAT, and the WTO? Remember its more profitable to do business overseas than it is doing business here. What’s to stop your employer from moving overseas and hiring Cheng, Carlos, and Achmed to do the same thing you do? All they have to do is close your division and hire a an overseas company to do what you do for less. Or Bankruptcy. You would be so screwed. Just ask those union members at United Airlines. or GM.
You hit the nail on the head! We are in full agreement. It is more profitable to do business overseas because THEY do not have to pay union wages or provide benefits. As a union worker, I am indeed screwed. The only thing I have hope in is that I work for the government.
Bruce, when Newtie was in charge, they actually voted themselves a raise above what the SS, Fed, military percentage was- only some gov workers are union. Reagan’s hatred for unions was also “unique” for an ex-president of the Screen Actors Guild. The GOP convention nominating him should have used “Twist and Shout” as a theme song.
“Joe Six-Pack” above is apparently too stoopid to join the union and enjoy the benefits.”
(He’s still voting for more tax breaks for Big Business.)
Not much going for us in the US huh? You are a citizen of Canada, or is that my misunderstanding? We have open borders between the US and Canada with business flowing back and forth very smoothly for the most part, right? I am curious how a Canadian Dollar is worth but .93 American Dollars? For all our collective ‘ineptness’ (not to mention importing more oil from Canada than any of the Mideastern countries,) how can this be?
Actually, Joe Sixpack deserves at least a shirt with all those logos with it. After all, the insurers that he and his family (if they can afford it) pay have “administrative expenses” of 10, 15, 20% - more than those sniveling French or those Canuck simpletons ever had. They made great profits in 2009, and they are already talking about how prices will have to rise - probably a few tens of percents over the next decade, just like over the last.
And he doesn’t even get a shirt and a baseball cap. He only gets to hear how great Class Enemy #1 - the godless liberals, or the corporate fatcats, or the pols (always a favourite, the pols of the Other Side that is), or the welfare recipients, or the immigrants, or whoever else has it.
@Loco I’m not saying we should all get government jobs either! Nice regulated Capitalism is the way to go. In other words regulate the stock market so the hedge funds don’t treat it as a casino, roll back the Reagan tax cuts, and get out of NAFTA and GAAT and tell the WTO to take a hike. You’ll see manufacturing come back to the States and with that the jobs that Americans definitely need.
If we all took jobs with the government we’d have communism.
What a bunch of *&$%#@@ ! Some of you people seem to know so little about the realities of unions.
If unionization were so good, it would be able to attract members on its own merits, alone. There would be no need for the strong-arm “Card Check” which the unions are trying to get their friends in Congress to enact.
If unions and their commanders were so good, Jock Yablonski and his wife and daughter would be posting in this thread.

Union man ain’t got no arms.
Also, I’d like to track down the exact moment that unions transformed back into the villains in the whole soap opera that is this country.

You’re right, Lisa. More American workers need to be covered by unions! Organize, baby, organize!

So the Unions have said that if you’re not a member of a Union you can’t have health care?
Does this mean that your employer can’t provide health care insurance unless you are in a Union?
Or is this just another bad Conservative cartoon trying to direct the anger and blame to someplace else other then the real problem.
