The ideals of youth have led the public discussion and been the spearhead of legislation and social reform for the past fifty years. How can things be getting worse for all that time rather than better?

Some people just stay in school until they get a Doctorate just because they don’t want to experience the “real world” and then go on to teach.

Other signs needed before going to college: “Learn to think for yourself;” “Just because the mainstream is doing it, it doesn’t mean it’s correct;” “Explore the many options;” “Make staying out of debt the top priority.”

Another sign before college: “Develop habits which are pro thrift, pro ecology and anti consumer.”

We all know that they are going to turn around and walk back through the door to go back to grad school. That English Bachelor’s degree won’t get them any jobs, but a Masters in Early Mesopotamian Literature, that’s the ticket.

@vwdualnonandYes, we of the older generations allowed ourselves to be manipulated by commercial interests into not passing down older, rational values to our youngsters.

Meh~thodology: The “vocational” jobs are the vast majority of long-term unemployment and use the skills most likely to become technologically outdated. For instance, I have skills in hand-set type letterpress printing; where are the openings?

Excuse this old fart; but, I have been part of the “What’s Next” generation. In other words, now that we solved the first pressing problem, what’s next on the agenda?Unfortunately, there are way too many who are just waiting for someone else to take care of everything, and hand it to them on a platter! Present company excluded, of course?

It doesn’t matter what the degree is, necessarily….All disciplines will teach you to think critically, distinguish between things that are similar, yet not alike, You will learn how to think in nonlinear concepts that may be unfamiliar to you, you will become skilled in how to do research for information……You will be challenged to reconcile different concepts. You will learn how to disagree professionally, You will learn to be well informed before you discuss a point or a process…. All great skills to bring into any career……..Learning specific skills for a career in teaching, nursing or plumbing is another way to go…. I’d be looking into 3D printing if I was college aged….If that’s not a growth industry there has never been one……All I know is that the better educated you are, the greater the odds you’ll read Non Sequitur….

Ah, yes. The vast conspiracy that turns all good works into mere political pandering. There was another key to that food locker, and I was going to prove it. It was the strawberries. That’s where I had them. Of course.

Seems a bit political today…..considering the highest paid job may be flipping burgers or working the express lane at WalMart (Since greeters are extinct now).

“And there have been others working to remove or change it till it is the opposite of what it was created to do.”Yes. The vast right-wing conspiracy; the Bilderberg Group, the Trilateral Commission, the Illuminati, the Carlyle Group and the Weather Underground.Oops. Sorry. That last one was really involved in politics and has surviving members supporting the opposition to the party that ended slavery and passed the Civil Rights Act.
