Alice trimming the grass with safety scissors reminds me of an Ernest P. Worrell commercial (played by Jim Varney, 1949-2000) where tried cutting down tall, dry grass with big-size safety scissors (with no avail to trim the grass down).

Oh, yeah! Beni’s Pop Pop pull-toy will get the job done, even better than your little kids’ scissors will, Alice! But by the time it’s done, you’ll be too exhausted to dance….

Those safety scissors won’t even cut paper, but if you use them right, a kid can shred crayons and leave the mess somewhere hot……..

I always carry my Fiskars (kids’ safety scissors) in my purse. They can open impossible-to-claw-apart snack bags, cut twine and masking tape, and do all manner of useful things. They’re allowed on airlines here; but when I was leaving Heathrow in London, a screener confiscated my Fiskars. “But they allow them in the United States!” I said, The screener said, “Well, ye’re not in the United States, are ye?”

When this was first published here, Mr. Thompson pointed to this (also published that day) in a comment.

You get to thinking that Beni is the smart one in the group and then he does something to remind you that, like the others, he’s just a four-year-old kid and thinks like one!
