The interesting thing here is how the “righteous” moralists are the ones who are failing so stupendously. I’m still waiting for the people who called on Clinton to resign to resign themselves. Haven’t seen a one!
Sigh…
For the record, I think that the whole Clinton investigation was uncalled for and hypocritical. My issue with Clinton was, and still is, lying under oath. However, it never should have gotten that far.
When you get away from the lying we run into the difference between ethics and morals. If a politician has an affair should we care about his/her morals? Now lets talk ethics. Clinton was not just having an affair. He was having sexual relations with an intern. This runs headlong into a number of ethical issues. With Sanford, we run into the ethical problem of his leaving his state leaderless with no devolution of power during his absence. Also, there is the question as to funding. Did the taxpayers wind up directly funding his trip? (See Elliot Spitzer, whom I am sad to say I voted for)
McGreevey, Mehlman, Foley, that toe-tappin’ fool: Larry Craig…yeah, shtup on your own time, not when your on the clock at the expense of the public mammary.
What is this with all these moral hypocrite Republicans? All at once they are very visible. And in Vitter’s and Ensign’s case got a round of applause from their fellow Republicans, not censure. Why is this? Because they are such virile stud muffins? Maybe not. And also, how indeed do you know it is a “she”?

How do you know it’s a ‘she’?

Jim forgot the part where the politician calls for the resignation of any Democrat who also hops on the infidelity train.

“Republicans denounce Sanford–something Democrats never did in the 90’s.”
They do? No they don’t. Show me one prominent Republican denouncing Sanford. When are the impeachment proceedings starting?

Howie – we all thought what Clinton did was tasteless, but certainly NOT impeachment material.

Yeah, Spitzer was a real disappointment. He was a hero taken down by his libido. Could have been presidential material.
