Why the #$%^& is there sugar and/or high fructose corn syrup in pickles, spaghetti sauce, and canned soups?!?!?! The nations low grade, industrialized food supply is a major reason why citizens’ overall health is declining.
Guess I’m not a “lib”: I don’t hate anybody. Funny, though, I seem to remember hearing as much “hate” expressed by “cons” as by “libs”: in fact, in terms of numbers of people hated, there doesn’t seem to be any contest at all. The worst of the “hating libs” seem only to hate small groups, like the “1%”: not that I approve of that. But the worst of the “hating cons” seem to hate billions: Muslims, Chinese, foreigners in general, urban America, the “47%”, anyone who needs or takes help from others, anyone who worries about the environment, etc. etc. Although I have heard some folks express hate for Republicans and Conservatives in general, and that IS pretty reprehensible and unreasonable. Even if they have their reasons. Personally, I think we could all use less hate, which only corrupts our own souls without harming the object of our hate.
HFCS is corn syrup in exactly the same way that Patagonian Toothfish is known as “Chilean Sea Bass”…it’s invented by marketers to sound more appetizing (though both are really fish, only corn syrup is actually derived from corn and HFCS is not)
@DoughfootOne of the most thoughtful comments I’ve seen in here in a long time, and I’d like to thank you for it. Too bad it probably won’t put the slightest dent in the rampant name-calling that too often passes for commentary and debate in here.
Xenophobes act from fear, not courage, and when every topic diverts to “hate” of anyone other than themselves, and placing that label on those others: is reflection.
It’s mind-boggling how much sugar Americans eat. It’s a wonder the pancreas can stand this level of saturation. But of course it can’t. Ever rising obesity. Ever rising diabetes. Ever rising health costs.
@TheTrustedMechanicThank you for your kind and informative reply. (lma: are there words to match the letters?) Yes, I do recognize the trolls. They never disappoint with their ignorance and unwillingness to acquire knowledge. On the other hand, I am truly amazed with the intelligence and well-informed members who post. I learn. Thank you for your “WELCOME.” This is my only account. How did you learn that I began in 2008?

This is a very astute comment on what happens when the government tries to pick winners and losers.

I don’t remember Ima being against hate or reasonable in anyway.

I guess the so-called conservatives are against all these quotas and subsidies, since they add to the deficit, huh?

Lobbyists may influence, but it is the government that has the power. I do agree with your assessment of lobbyists, in general.
