Val: Rena wants me to ask you if you know anyone who's single.
Phil: I know LOTS of single guys.
Phil: How PICKY is she?
Val: No one you've ever arrested.
Phil: OK, I'll have to think harder.
A friend of mine used to be a cop in a small town. He told me a story about getting a call late one night about a break-in at a business. He responded to the call and ended up pulling his gun to arrest the thief. He said it was then & there that he started to think he needed to get out of police work. He told me that as he ordered the man to lie down, the guy started saying “Don’t shoot, Bob! It’s me, Joey!” When you start to know the first names of all the crooks in town and they all know your first name, it’s time for a change.
I had a relative who was a police officer for 30 years, only had to use his weapon in the line of duty once. All the other times, he used either simple conversation or if the situation warranted it—physical force with no ‘investigation’ afterwards if he used too much force. Just like our teachers, the community has ‘handcuffed’ our police from being able to do their job.

Just cut out the felons. I’m sure Rena won’t mind a misdemeanor or three.
