The model didn’t want to show his face because his folks back home in Bergen thought he was a successful theatre actor…

Personally I wasn’t even that impressed with her singing. Her acting was terrible.

The Van Gogh children weren’t as talented as the Von Trapps.

My, we all have opinions, don’t we? We feel smug about putting someone down, even when we couldn’t have done any better. As a professional musician and “Sound of Music” afficionado, I thought it was very nicely done. I give Carrie kudos for attempting live television and for recreating a classic musical. Suspend harsh judgement for a bit and enjoy it for what it is: entertainment. I doubt that even she expected to outdo Mary Martin or Julie Andrews. There is no need to be mean.

I couldn’t understand why it was on a Thursday and didn’t start earlier because many kids (and this adult) don’t stay up until 11 pm. Personally, I did not like costume choices for Carrie Underwood. I would have liked to see it later in the "holiday season), when kids didn’t have to worry about school the next day. It could have been a real family event.

Click-to-enlarge image can be found here, or at Mr. Melcher’s blog entry.Sorrowing Old Man or At Eternity’s Gate (link shows the painting’s Wikipedia description) is shown, with a different coloration image, by its current-location page.Another different coloration, click-to-enlarge image can be found here (along with a description, extensive bio, and collection); but there are many different coloration, or detail, images of it available online.A 190+ page eBook tries to explain why the artist (Google Cultural Institute) painted it. In addition to most of the first chapter, the first 2 pages, of the 32-page chapter about the painting itself, are available online. It is one of 269 works, so far, by this artist, shown online by its current-location (some of which may be on loan to other museums); if you click a thumbnail image, the displayed page will have the English title as well.It is based on an earlier lithograph (identifies the individual, has other details). At least 3 different websites are devoted to this artist. His Wikipedia page and collection (much more under Content and Subcategories at each level).Third, of the 4 works, by this artist, that have, so far, appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog, to also appear here.
