I was five and a half months old at the time. Plus I was nowhere near the Grassy Knoll that day.

In first grade. A friend’s mother came running in to the room crying that the President had been shot.

In third grade. The teachers were crying, and the whole school went out to the flagpole and observed several moments of silence while the flag was lowered to half-staff.

The Chicago Tribune didn’t run this Bliss strip and ran instead a Bliss strip from December 2010 (“Did you remember to plug my car?”). Maybe they wouldn’t want to offend the 50th. anniversary of the JFK tragedy.

I was in 3rd grade. One of the other teachers came in and whispered something into our teacher’s ear. I’ll never forget the horrified look on her face. A little while later they sent us all home for the day. When I got home, the news was on and my Mother was crying.

I was on my way with my parents to visit my grandmother, aunt, uncle and cousin in Bethesda for the Thanksgiving holidays. While enroute near Frederick, my dad passed an Army car that was going rather slow, once he passed them, they then sped up to a high right of speed and passed him. He was mad! He thought they were being “smartasses”. When we got to Bethesda, we knew why the Army car sped up! My aunt worked at Bethesda Naval Hospital. When they brought the body back I was close enough to see the casket and Jackie in her pink suit and pillbox hat. I was 10.
