Calvin you would make a great straight man.

Does “full deck” have a special meaning I cannot understand?

LX013, if someone is not playing with a full deck, it means they don’t have a full mental capacity.

Once again, Calvin sets himself up, and doesn’t even realize he’s been insulted until hours later!

Ok…I don’t get it.

The humor in today’s strip is based on the disguised insult.

Panel 2: Calvin states the fact that he’s “not playing with a full deck.”

Panel 3: Calvin takes Hobbes’ response at face value.

Panel 4: Calvin realizes that Hobbes’ response was an insult.

When someone appears to be not very intelligent or a bit “nutty,” people often say things like “He’s lost all his marbles” or “He’s not playing with a full deck.”

Calvin dude this took you awhile as well to respond. You lost you marbles now your not playing with a full deck.

Not only is his deck not full, it’s full of jokers!

Once again…

hobbes is on a role

The wheel is spinning, but the hamster’s dead.

…the lights are flashing, the bells are ringing, but the train isn’t coming…

Strangely, and maybe because I had two younger sisters, “incomplete” card decks were pretty much the norm. The good news was that many of these decks came with extra cards – ordering information, advertisements for other products by the printer, etc., that could be marked as “2 of Clubs”, for example.

What made us completely crazy were Pinochle decks….

Plays hell with your Solitaire skills….

Back in Indiana, Euchre is a very popular card game. Perhaps because it’s one game that doesn’t require a full deck (it uses only 9s, 10s, Js, Qs, Ks, and As, and sometimes 7s and 8s.)
