When I was a kid there was almost always a toothbrush in my bag with the name and phone number a local dentist imprinted on it.

    Lynn’s Notes:

For years we gave out a Halloween themed dental kit — with brush, paste, and floss included. One time, thinking the kids would be tired of getting toothbrushes, I decided to give out candy like everyone else. The next day, I got calls from a couple of parents asking what had happened to the toothbrushes! Apparently, they counted on Halloween, when every year their kids would get a new one.

Been there done that (daughter of a dentist). Embarrassing as a kid, but every parent loved it! Besides, if we had given out candy it would have looked like my dad was fishing for business too much!

You can’t brush too often! The dentist is a very expensive place to visit if you don’t have dental insurance!

summerdog, don’t let them sell you a bunch of unnecessary procedures. Filling “soft spots” is a prime example. I changed dentists and the “soft spot” didn’t turn into a cavity for 10 years.

As an American living in Canada this is one thing I find it very hard to get used to. Thanksgiving comes way too early and this year it was way too hot to cook a turkey for several hours in the oven. We just got turkey from the deli and had the regular trimmings. The past couple of years we’ve been having a second Thanksgiving on the same day as Americans celebrate it.

“I’m guessing there will be Christmas-themed story lines coming soon.”Too true, Susan. In fact, Christmas has been roaring along robustly in some retail establishments around here. Sunday before last, we were out shopping, and I told the seven-year-old that I didn’t like to think about Christmas till the day after Thanksgiving, so I wouldn’t wear out my holiday spirit. After that, she warned me about Christmas displays and told me not to look at them. However, I suppose Burl Ives will tune up pretty soon.

We had a dentist in our neighborhood, who gave out toothbrushes and those tartar spotting tablets.his was the most popular house in the neighborhood on All Hallow’s Eve

When I trick or treated, it was spread into 2 nights in town. I used to get donuts, candy apples, gingerbread men, even nickles or pennies. We knew the best houses to go to. We very rarely received chocolate. It was too expensive then, being full size bars and no mini bars yet. In some houses we were all invited in for cider.
