Could Oliphant please stop posting when we ain’t looking, lol. We can’t hardly get the kind of fights on here that we do for all the other (lesser) editorial cartoonists!
A despot with WMDs that uses them on his own people.A threat to his people and the region. How much clearer can it be?We need to invade!-With the army we have.Using Shock and Awe.Operation Syrian Freedom. Objective is regime change.-We will be treated as liberators.Mission Accomplished, three weeks tops. All people yearn for freedom, soA democratic form of government will naturally emerge. And best of all, THEIR oil revenues will finance the rebuilding of their nation!-If terrorism ensues, well, Bring It On!Think of it!Freedom on the march!Democracy on the march!-What could go wrong?
Two Oliphant favorites return for a cameo. If “It’s a Wonderful Life” is ever re-made, Cheney (Lyingall Burymore) could play Mr. Potter, no problem. And W looks more and more like Roy Rogers. (Cheap shots, I know.)
This is not Iraq or even Afghanistan. This is more like Clinton bombing the Sudan or Reagan bombing Libya. We drop a couple of bombs, declare victory and it’s over. Had he just launched the attack rather than saying he was going to ask Congress, this would already be history and well on the way to being forgotten.
The odd thing is no President has ever asked for Congressional authority for a mission this small. The mere fact that he did has made people think it’s going to be bigger than it will be. The fact that he’s set a precedent for doing this may be the most important thing to come out of the entire affair.
Someday in the distant future, a president asking permission to invade some country will say, “Don’t worry, this isn’t going to be like Syria. Believe me!”
