Yesterday, my stepmother’s nephew flew to Salt Lake City, Utah from Spokane, Washington on his own. Why? So he can start his LDS mission training while waiting for his visa to take him to Brazil. See you again in 24 months, step-cuz! (There is an LDS temple in Spokane and a few in Brazil, by the way.)
Too true. Luckily, my dad’s parents lived well into my 20s, my mom’s father to my late 30s, and my mom’s mother is still with us (and still can tell us a thing or several dozen!).
True. I only knew my father’s mother. She developed Alzheimer’s when I was 16. It was painful when she would ask ME about me. She no longer recognized me at the age I was. She only remembered me younger.
“Let’s have a hug” … maybe not narrating/comment, but it wasn’t “please, give me a hug before you go home.”In my family, it was handshakes for male cousins, and uncles/nephews, and hugs for my aunts/female cousins.
FBOFW and it’s character’s have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I haven’t been following much since Lynn Johnston returned to the beginning, but suddenly to come back and see Grandma and Grampa, alive, well, and quite a bit younger is, well, like seeing old friends who I thought had been lost forever.
I’m sorry she decided to wrap up their stories, because these characters have become so real. if only..
Lynn, maybe it’s time to hire some writers to get things going again. Well managed, these stories could go on for another long long time.
‘How’—Such is the life of a ‘Grandpa’. Our granddaughter would almost ‘bowl’ grandma over whenever we would visit our oldest daughter’s family while ‘grandpa’(me)would get a ‘half-hearted’, ‘hullo, grandpa’, a bare acknowledgement that I was even there.
