If the dog goes after him it’s “biting Satyr”?.@John Bollinger: Cut me a little slack on this one….it’s a good pun and when would I ever get to use it again?

Click-to-enlarge image can be found here, or at Mr. Melcher’s blog entry. The Satyr and the Peasant (link shows Wikipedia page) is shown by its current-location page (Google translated).A different coloration, maybe-click-to-enlarge, image can be found here, along with a description.Twenty years later the artist also painted this (Google translated, same title and current-location, click an image to the right to maybe change the larger image). To me anyway, the guy at the table looks like his self-portrait, but without the bagpipe. He also painted this, this, and this at around the same time as the painting shown here. All have roughly the same title as this, and hang in the museums listed here.A pretty much replica of the last is currently for sale. Its online description goes into great detail about the differences between it and the museum painting, and other info you may find interesting. His Wikipedia page and collection (more under Subcategories at each level).Fourth, of the 4 works, by this artist, that have, so far, appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog, to also appear here.

The dog seems to be taking a dim view of the satyr – kind of a “you let HIM sit at the table, why not me?” look.

The show is a satire about a satyr who sadly sings soul songs for his supper.
