But will a lightning bug hiccup twice?….Or for that matter, will lightning bugs do anything twice?….

Lightning bugs, cardinals, the Impressionists at the Chicago Art Institute, and the water we pumped with a hand pump from the well at the corner of the orchard — the only things I miss about the Midwest

Was out last night and saw lightnening bugs. One was close, so I cupped my hand..and it landed to rest its wings.

I still see a few now and then. Just one of many things that are more rare now- butterflies, frogs, bees…

Then there was the lightening bug that backed into a fan…and was de-lighted.

For those who missed it yesterday, I discovered a sort of Fritzi Ritz fan page which has tons and tons of classic strips posted – FRITZ RITZ DOT COM. The classic strips go back to the 30s and 40s and include strips from the days when Fritzi, Phil, Nancy and Suggo each had their own strip!

At least in 1981 we had lightning bugs in Illinois, but my cousin Ruthie didn’t in Minnesota. So when she came down for my sister’s wedding she set all the kids to catch some for the “Animal Friends” class she was teaching in summer school up north.

Ah, put the pleasure of stomping on a cockroach outside, especially the flying ones that make a delightful-sounding crunch.
