The squirrel redeems himself (somewhat).

Teach a squirrel to read and . . . well, you may create a politician?
But, seriously, great series, Verne is a true friend, and just think how this can increase Hammy’s magic!

This is a keeper. Verne … what a wonderful fellow and Hammy is just over the moon listening to the story.
The image of Hammy in the last frame is adorable … awwww.

I love to read aloud. I’ve read Heinlein to my college roommate, Lord of the Rings to my cousins, and Harry Potter to my niece. Each time, I’ve found something new in books which have been old friends for years. Go Verne!!!

Hammy can read. There was an arc a couple of (a few?) years ago where he was doing complicated mathematics.

This is my favorite OTH strip as well; this reminds me of the time long ago where we’d all gather round to listen to dad read Tom Sawyer… I couldn’t go into caves for a little while though ;)

This has to be one of the best ever.

Ever notice how silly you look trying to read to a child from an e-reader? “Real” children’s books have wrap-around illustrations, are large and easily handled by children, and, if damaged, can be readily replaced.

Awesome and brilliant strip. This one is getting printed for my wall!

and Hammy pulls a Tom Saywer on Vern. So cool

Every squirrel and every tree loves a good story. This is part of why Vern has always been my favorite character.

I use a Nook myself, but it can’t replace the look, feel and smell of a real book. I have “The Brass Bottle” on the Nook, but I also have a copy of the first American publication of it, printed in 1899. While the first 25 Tom Swifts are available for ebook reading, the rest of the series isn’t. Plus some of my books are autographed. Can’t do that with a Kindle or Nook.

I think that was Hammy’s plan all along ;0)

Nice that there is finally a strip that doesn’t actually poke fun at reading.
