There should’ve been spiders (and dragonflies) in there instead of ants. Of course, ladybugs are excellent organic pest removers, too. (Some places around town have bat houses instead of bird houses, precisely for the reason IGoPogo4 stated above.)

Truly wild cats aren’t a problem. Domesticated (including feral) cats are another story.
