Val: Holly, you're in charge of Luci. Alix and Andy, keep MAX out of trouble. Val: We'll take Joan and Wally to the airport and be back in an hour. Joan: You're BOTH going? And leaving the kids ALONE? Val: Time to go, sis. Joan: Wally, we're cancelling the trip.

Surely Andy and Holly can act responsibly taking care of Alix, Max and Luci for just an hour.

Reminds me of my sis-in-law and my bro – who left their tiny tot with us and went for a Friday evening movie. She(SiL) was very nervous as it was the first time she was separated from her (beloved) offspring for more the 3hrs. As they left we were guessing how long before she was back – she would’nt go thro the entire film that was for sure. Sure enough – barely half way through the film, a very agitated mom was reunited with her well-fed and comfortable off-spring. My bro, though, chuckled all the way through his mis(sus)fortune.

Andy (and Holly, for that matter) are old enough for the situation to “look okay in the newspaper” in case something happens. That’s my criterion. Still, I can kind of see Joan’s point.

I had my kids everywhere with me while they were small (but that WAS the 1960s).

Joan remembers what happened when Holly and Alix “watched” Max for an hour while Val was at work. The kitchen got finger painted, then while Max was supposed to be napping, he unplugged the baby monitor (while Joan was helping Val clean the kitchen) and took off his diaper… and well… let’s just say he could clear the house! Maybe with Andy there, the house might still be standing. But it’s Stone Soup comix… it wouldn’t be funny if nothing happened!

Why does it take two of them to drive to the airport?

@Elsie Ross. That’s what my family expects. Baby sit, buy their clothes and don’t expect to be invited anywhere, don’t have an opinion, I try to oblige.
