I was a senior in high school so I didn’t do anything to prepare for Y2K.

Either a big relief or a big disappointment, depending on your responsibilities or lack thereof. People were afraid that computers had not been programmed to deal with it. As it turned out, they had…

Ironically, she spent less and was just as affected by Y2K as the rest. Meaning, nothing happened, and we carried on living.

While I did question whether I should have been more prepared, I was more like Cathy for Y2K. I figured that a lot of people had prepared for the worst, and if something happened, I would be okay for a week or so. For NYE 1999, I was at the beach with friends at a resort, and I figured that if something went wrong, at least I’d be with my friends having fun.

Before Y2K actually happened, I worked in software for years, and our little company put in a lot of time and effort to make sure our software worked when the year changed from 1999 to 2000. Our software was for process manufacturers, so while it didn’t affect lives, it was important to those companies that their businesses continue to run. We had a group dedicated solely to the Y2K effort, and we did have to make lots of changes and test them. I figured that if our company worked so hard on making sure our software worked, then more important and larger companies like the utilities and airlines would have worked on theirs as well, so I felt pretty good that things would work at the stroke of midnight 01/01/2000.

Hello Cathy friends! Happy Monday! A belated happy birthday to me! Have a great day, all!

I do remember that some people with pre-cut grave headstones, had their birth date on them, and a pre-cut death date of 19__. They weren’t dead yet when 2000 rolled around.

Our total preparations was to make sure we had oil for an oil lamp. Did not worry if we lost power or heat or anything as the company I worked for had the entire building on a huge diesel standby generator. Oh, the company worked for two years to modify their software to work in the year 2000 and even did a full test of it on a computer with the date set for the future. Because of that work, there were no issues with the software so the telephones worked and the billing was correct in January 2000.

I hope everyone had a fun Monday.

Hey—sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Y2K was no exception, even if most of the predicted horror stories turned out to be false.
