Mrs. Hillman: When we moved in with you after the mortgage crisis, we promised we wouldn't be a burden! Irving: You haven't been, mom. Mrs. Hillman: We vowed to mind our own beeswax! Irving: You have! Mrs. Hillman: Live and let live! Irving: You have! Mrs. Hillman: To not comment! Not nag! Not control! Not judge! Irving: Relax, mom! You and dad have been the perfect guests! Mrs. Hillman: WELL! This has been a great big failure!

It’s 2021, I wonder if Irving’s folks are still using the spare bedroom? I think this was near the end of the original run of the strip in 2010 but I kind of forgot how it all finishes up.

I stopped getting the newspaper in 2001: all the arcs are new to me.

There has got to be something else in Cathy’s cup other than coffee. There’s no way Cathy is sincerely smiling while her husband so blatantly lies. And I wouldn’t put it past the MIL that she hasn’t been acting worse just to mess with them. As much as Irving has his faults, it’s amazing that he turned out pretty well.
Hello Cathy friends! Happy Friday! Have a great day, all!

DH and I are way too independent to have any parent move in with us. They can go live in their cars.

Apparently, Cathy and Irvin have gone nose blind.(House guests, like fish, go bad quickly) Probably better that way.

Although I have tried to wipe the memory of those strips out of my mind I seem to recall reading proof that Irving is blatantly lying – and with such a sincere look on his face too.
Is it really Friday already? I thought yesterday was Monday! Well, since it is Friday, enjoy the day and have a fun weekend.

Oh, don’t worry. You’ve been ALL those things and more. Your son is just too polite to say so!
As for Cathy, I don’t know what she’s drinking in that cup, but she’s obviously hammered. Or high. Or both. Wouldn’t she almost have to be?!? How else to explain that frozen “smile” on her face as Irving stands there and blatantly lies to his parents about how they’ve been “the perfect guests” when those words couldn’t possibly be any further from the truth???
It’s beyond time for Irving to be honest with his parents and tell them that it’s time for them to move out and live on their own again. If my supposition is right, those two sponges have been living with Cathy and Irving rent-free for the past 16 months while they both collected a monthly S.S. check at the same time — which means they should have more than enough money saved up by now in order to do so ….. if not in their previous home (which would be best given they live far enough away that it takes a plane ride in order to get there!), then at least a one-bedroom apartment somewhere. Anywhere else but C&I’s house would do!
