I always figured if I had a daughter (I never did), I would not want her named “Diane.” It’s not that I have anything against the name “Diane”, but my last name is commonly mispronounced “ree-aah”, and it would be downright cruel to have a kid named “Di Ree-aah.”
After I told a friend the names we had picked out for our first baby, I discovered that it was very stressful when people didn’t react with enthusiasm or trying to guess what people’s reactions meant. So we stopped telling anyone, except our families. After our son was born, I didn’t mind telling people his name – I guess because it was a “done deal” by that time.

If I don’t like a name and want to be tactful, I say “interesting”. That’s no lie. Or, I just say, “Oh,” and smile.

And since she’s pregnant, you can’t tell her to take a drink and calm down.

Oy. Unusual to see the title character as the sane one, isn’t it? [smile]
