Val: You know what Holly said to me today, Mom?
Gramma Evie: What?
Val: "You can't make me."
Gramma Evie: WHAT?!
Val: But...I THOUGHT about it. She's a teenager. I can't REALLY make her do anything.
Gramma Evie: I can.
Val: MOM!
No, you can’t without a fight everytime. Let Holly do all the complaining because you won’t give her an allowance anymore, or iron her clothes, or cook what she likes…
Good for her! People need to learn respect while they’re young. I’m so tired of people not thinking respect for others is good or wanting to teach it to their children. Now it’s all about “me, me, me”. And look where it’s gotten us…
Unplug the phone, change the station whenever she watches TV, don’t do her laundry, and feed everybody at meal time except her and when she complains, reply “You can’t make me.”
If I get tired of telling my grandson to put up the clean dishes (his only chore), I can get action by threatening to ask his dad to disable his computer. “I’ll have to go to the big guy!”
I was getting ready to say you go Evie, But then mom has a plan.Bart lots here love to comment about the strip and somome to relay to real life. the Strip is fun to talk about.
When kids are strong willed and say parents can’t make them do anything, then parents should say: “Then you can’t make me give you your allowance, buy you new clothes, or CDs, ipads, and DVDs.”
If you have the love of devoted parents you are blessed with riches beyond measure. Parents that love you enough to say no. The older you get the smarter your parents are.

Good to see some old school parenting. Of course, now the legal people will get in and call it abuse…

Remind her about who feeds and shelters her, not withstanding pays for all of her necessities like phone, internet, etc.

Best not to start a war with a teen ager. They always win.

My oldest daughter tried the “You can’t make me” line when she was about four or five. I just snorted “Hah! I already did!”
By the time she was a teenager she knew better than to try to out-stubborn Dad.
