Of course Tootsie rolls would survive the Apocalypse. Hmm…I wonder if Linda’s going to put together a hodgepodge cake from whatever food and materials she can scrounge for Mr. Hopper?

Read the label, please. Those aren’t Tootsie Rolls. They’re just Rolls.

Advertizement has us well trained. A partial name and a shape is enough for full recognition. I don’t think she is going to eat them. There is a better purpose for this. And that is why there is a very happy look on her face. Now.. I love Linda. Come on girl. I am surprised that some one else didn’t find them first. Oh well. Blessed Be

Look closer…on the bottom tootsie roll you can see the top of a “T”. It’s almost hidden, but it’s there.

I love those old fans.. they were all over my Grandpop’s house when I was growing up. He hung a ribbon from the front so you would know when it was on. We kids learned pretty quickly to not put our fingers through the wide spaced grill.

Will 4 rolls make a cake, even a small one, if that is her intention?

To me the oatmeal gave it away. There has to be food stockpiles in Endtown. Look at Endtown. Do you think all they would do is build a town and not prepare by stocking supplies somewhere. It would part of the program of building Endtown. You build an underground city then put away enough food stocks to feed the population for however long you think you are going to use the city. Stockpiles of stuff may be there somewhere but due to population and survival the supplies may be dolled out either as rewards or such. Remember the oatmeal. I mean the cream was enough but the oatmeal got my attention. Maude said the oatmeal was given to her husband as a reward for his services. The rolls may have been rewards for the previous occupant for his services as a scavenger. The stockpiles if any in Endtown would be a limited resource. You pack food away to feed a population for 10 years if the population goes up that lowers the time. If the population doubles then you only have 5 years of food. So scavenging Topside would stretch the resources saving the stockpiles. It is probably not known all over Endtown as info like that could trigger riots. You don’t build a city and not prepare by putting food stuffs away. Early days of scavenging may have created a huge surplus but as we have seen the supplies topside are dwindling putting pressure on the survivors. I believe Endtown was build and supplies stocked in preparation as it would have been the correct way to set up Endtown. Just not everyone knows of the stock supplies. After 6 years of Endtown and the population increases they may be getting low. This is just an observation. But think about the oatmeal and the rolls. Did they come from topside scavenging or supplies in Endtown?

Fresh milk and eggs wouldn’t be among the stockpiles…Linda could hit up Maude for milk, but who could give her eggs, no-questions-asked?#Yup, it looks like chocolate coins in with the Tootsie rolls…

If Linda is figuring out how to make a cake for Mr. Hopper, I really hope it works.Perhaps by easing his suffering, she can finally start putting an end to her own.

It looks like Linda’s coming around. As I hoped, Meg filled Linda in on his background.BTW, I will be “out of the office” for a while. I got suddenly weak on New Year’s and later went to the hospital. I’m due to go for a double bypass in a few hours. Wish me well.I’m in good shape otherwise so no problems are expected.I should be back within a week.

“The prior occupant was not gotten by TSers. She was engaged to the person killed by them. She committed suicide afterwards”In the 11/02 strip, Maude says that the previous occupant was “the kid who lived here”. In the 11/08 strip, Linda asks about the kid and is told that “Topsiders got him”. She asks about the “woman in the photo” and Maude says that was his fiance, who killed herself a month later (reason not specified).

Cocoa and vanilla are made from beans, also Carob beans are used as a chocolate substitute, as well as a thickening agent. There are several bean flours, but because they have no gluten need help rising and leaving little air bubbles found in most breads and cakes. Soybeans can provide oil and flour, with soy or soya flour having a lighter taste than (black) flour. I cannot eat gluten, so I have at least seven different types of gluten free flour. No wheat, oats, rye barley or any grain that may have contacted a gliaden containing product. Soya is the lightest gluten free flour I have found except cornstarch, and I had a reaction to cornstarch. Flax flour is the best, but I have never seen it canned. To my experience, all the gluten free flours all need a pinch of xanthan gum to provide the structure to help gluten free baked goods rise, even with a leavening agent.I have never tried quinoa, but the best flour substitutes seem to come from seeds or grains, rather than beans. Also, can anyone else see Maude as the GodMother of some sort of criminal food black market? Oh yes, vote early and often using Level_Head’s or SurfStuff55’s links which they graciously provide. Thanks,JusSayin
