Cute, BUT WRONG! Many homeschool parents have outside the home classes using hired instructors.By the way, that first bit was from some cartoon show from the nineties where this big burly guy would say, “Isn’t that cute, But it’s Wrong”!!!!

Incorrect. I teach day classes in martial arts to homeschoolers, & they are smarter, more mannered & focused than the night classes with the public school kids. The homeschoolers get so much more education, because their parents care. They go on more field trips that are relevant to what they are learning than their public school peers, & consistently win more spelling bees at the state & national levels. Liberals & Big Government have destroyed our education system. Kids cannot even count back change without a cash register telling them how much to dole out. They can learn how to put a condom on a banana, though.

When I was homeschooling, our parent-teacher conferences were dates with my husband. It was a great time to discuss strategies and curriculum options.

Awfully touchy subject for a comic strip; especially in light of John Nash’s recent passing…

Insanity is inherited; you get it from your kids.

    YMMV.

My main complaint isn’t with the quality of teaching. It’s how the subjects are taught. The history my daughter-in-law teaches is different than the history I lived through.

I suspect, perhaps, we’re all missing the joke.Comedy is generally more poetic and less literal..PTA is Parent Teacher Association. If you home-school your children, you’d be carrying on a meeting with your self..It’s that simple. You may not agree that it’s funny, but I seriously doubt today’s strip was intended to be disrespectful..We home-schooled both our children but I’m just bi-polar..For the record, schizophrenic disorders include, but are not limited to, multiple personalities. One literal translation for schizophrenia would be: divided brain/head..Think “schism”.

Compare the first grade level McGuffey Reader, used from 1836 to 1960, and a favorite with homeschoolers, with what I started with in Kindergarten (“See Jack”, etc.), and the difference will be very obvious and painful.

Today’s cartoon insults the mentally ill and home schooling. It is in execrable taste.

People home school their kids for a few different reasons, but it is mostly to be in control of what they learn. Maybe you are a Bible literalist or maybe you don’t want them learning about drugs, sex, rock and roll, or you don’t want them to learn about pecking order, but you aren’t doing them any favors if you keep them away from others.

’Scuse me, I meant to finish the sentence: "I graduated with a BA in Psychology, and college algebra, statistics, 2 years of Am History, 4 years of English, and at at least 2 semesters of science (mine were Biology and non-major chem), and all core curriculum subjects were mandatory subjects for *any degree program!

Amen! I have always emphasized learning, hard work, respect and responsibility to my kids and they’re doing great. Sure, they’ve had some bad teachers, but most of them are good ones and get blamed for bad parenting. I’m all for holding teachers to high standards as long as parents are held to the same.
