Whoa! an interesting strip today. What, Ludwig didn’t lay around in a funny position such that we could all be expected to fall down laughing?

They are looking more and more like young Arlo and Janis. A new strip? Replacements?

@ Varnes: Yes, a rare “misfire” by Jimmy.

Not a misfire, if they are on the Gulf Coast, say……fires outside on chilly nights are wonderful, btw…

Maybe the fire’s metaphoric. Mary Lou’s enthusiasm for needed income during this part of the year has put out the fire of Gene’s complaining. At the same time, the fire could represent the “fires of hell” to those whose income drops this time of year, and Mary Lou’s statement puts out those fires. Or, perhaps, it’s the burning of Gene’s sore muscles, and this “up-side” to the hard work has doused the burning of Gene’s muscles with “good news” that “makes it all worth the effort” and acts as balm on his aches.
