Arlo and Janis by Jimmy Johnson for March 03, 2012

Transcript:
Arlo: Hey! What's wrong with the water!?
Janis: There's a work crew down the street! I guess it'll be off for a while!
Arlo: Man, there's nothing quite like having no water!
An irony is that if Arlo were in India (especially in the major cities), he would have learnt to cope with the no-water-in-taps circumstance (commonest way is by having a covered plastic container of about 55-gallon volume full of water around for those times—refill when the tap goes on).
I’ve been to a spot in Mexico where it was common for water to be turned on to regions of the city in turn. Every house had a large tank in/on the roof that filled when it was their turn.
And said tanks are the reason for the bad reputation of Mexican water. Same thing in Merida where the water was charged at a flat rate, so no one conserved and the pressure was often low. Roof tanks in the sun were microbe breeders.
Being without water for a few hours is a minor inconvenience to me, but being without electricity is the end of the world. I will not fare well in a post-apocalyptic scenario. I already know that in the even of a zombie apocalypse, I’ll be one of the first ones eaten.

So very true. I can read by a camp lantern a lot longer than I can go without needing to flush.
