I’m old enough to remember a time when being a newspaper reporter was just as dangerous as being a policeman, fireman, ambulance attendant. Dig in the wrong place and you got shot. Now it is as follows: Let someone GIVE you what they call news, call the shills to back the narrative up, bob your head like you understand anything they said, and if they don’t agree, choose the insult of the day.
I am currently reading “Hate Inc.” by Matt Taibi. It’s a very informative analysis of what went “wrong” with the media over the last few decades. One of my takeaways (so far) is how the profession of journalism has evolved from one that allowed entry by most anyone. Now it’s almost exclusively college degree, resulting in the loss of “voice” for many (working class, lower class). The result often is you have the people who report on the news unwilling to critically analyze those who are like them. This is especially true at the national level, less so locally. Another reason to support your local press.
Unfortunately, one of the highest tenets in the ’Authoritarian’s Handbook’ is to attack and weaken support for any media not supporting a totalitarian viewpoint. This means uniquivocal support for the despot regardless of his/her speech and actgions.
Where I live, we have an excellent local newspaper that’s still family owned. The reporting is done by people who can legitimately call themselves “journalists,” and, for the most part, their reporting is fair and balanced. I hope they’re never bought out by some new conglomerate.
Ironically, it is also Fire Prevention Week. I have my furnace checked around Labor Day, which was good because the colder weather kicked the furnace on last week. I keep the house at 20º, so it had to get quite cold to kick it off.

Losing touch with reality is the definition of insanity.
Like the old Monty Python sketch, Dems believe that men can have babies. It proves that they’re insane, and therefore they hate that people have the right to say that they’re insane.
I have taught my children that freedom of the press means: the press is fee to say what they want. It does not mandate that it be the truth, the whole story or be unbiased. No major ‘news’ does that. To think otherwise, one has drank the “cool aid” of their party. BOTH parties have been serving a hell of a lot of Cool aid.
Although our system of “freedom of the press” is not perfect, we can be grateful it’s not controlled by the government (yet) spoon-feeding us what they want us to know. What’s mystifying to me is that some of the posts want to silence information they don’t like or believe. Do any of us really want a state run media?

Remember the 1st Amendment should apply to authors, publishers and libraries, not just to political cartoonists.

Goodwyn draws a picture of things Republicans HATE.
If you want to see a Republican ideal of elections, take a look at the recent plebiscite held in the Ukrainian territories.

Dems hate Freedom of speech.
Freedom of Speech shows that the Dems are insane.
