Personally, I would have been more impressed if they had found one with a backbone. Those ARE non-existant.

I’m thinking that being locked up for a while to participate in a breeding program could be good.

Funny you mention that. If our current crop of scientists, science grad students, and college professors were in the 1500s, they probably would be publishing studies on why the earth is flat because the catholic church had the money then. A disgusting amount of our science now is purely to please those who have money for grants, fellowships, etc. Call it “purse string science”.
Take embryonic stem cells. It has the lion’s share of both media and money in research of stem cells. Despite not having been successful in curing a single disease because of 1. Tissue rejection , and 2. Overgrowth (similar to cancer). The abortion industry has a lot of money.
In the meantime, dozens of diseases have been treated by adult stem cells. It should have been big news that a group of people has been diabetes-free for 6+ years. But the media’s all but ignored it because that’s not the type of stem cells that they want to be used.
Umbilical cord blood has been used in a few cases to cure kids, where those kids’ parents have had it cryogenically frozen in case something developed later. But that is all but ignored, too.
