Similar to the report that upon being told the people of France had no bread, that Marie Antoinette suggested,
    “Let them eat cake.”
Some believed this suggested a slight disconnect between the royalty and the masses.

As of this month, some 98 million are out of work. Compared with 89 million in April. And yet all we hear is “recovery”.
    .
    A slight disconnect…

I don’thear anybody talking “recovery” or ‘jobs" just repealing ObamaCare and outlawing abortion. Hot flash turkey eagles: Not only is abortion legal, it’s constitutionally protected. Leave Women Alone.

Actually, there is no evidence that Marie Antoinette ever said that. It was attributed to a ‘famous princess’, but pro-revolutionaries attributed it to her.

I am with XBC13, please cite your sources. The US population is around 350 million now. Some percentage of these people are retired and another sizeable portion are in school and too young to work. So lets assume a pool of able-bodied people able to work at 220 million. Based on your figures, that puts unemployment at 44%. I do not think anyone (except maybe you and Fox News fans) would begin to believe that figure.

Nabuquduriuzher’s figures are off, but his point is not wrong. According to Dept of Labor statistics, the June unemployment rate stands at 7.6% with over 11.7 million workers out of work. Of these, 4.3 million have out of work for more than 27 weeks accounting for 36.7% of the unemployed. During the last 12 months, then number of long-term unemployed has only decreased by 1 million.
Furthermore, in June the number of involuntary part-time workers increased by over 300,000. These are workers who had their hours cut back or who were only able to find part-time employment. It gets worse.
The number of discouraged workers in June rose to 1 million, increasing by 206,000 over the past year. Discouraged workers are those who have stopped looking for work because they believe there aren’t any jobs available to them.
At best, the country as a whole is doing no better than treading water where economic recovery is concerned. You can read the whole thing here.
