    re: peabody

    Imagine some future archeologist digging that up and claiming that it was a representation of kingly power or some religious symbol. “these devices have been found all over the continent. They were representations of sceptres that the rulers of the house would use to hold court.”
    .
    Some teenager carves a piece of stone to look like his girlfriend and 2500 years later it’s an icon to aphrodite or somesuch. When I was in high school, SNL made fun of that type of attributing great significance to everything that was dug up. Archeologists dug up a “road shrine to the great god Mac” and tried to claim this and that about it.

    @Nabuquduriuzhur

    Just think what an archaeologist digging up a landfill 10,000 years from now is going to think. They will never figure out half the stuff they find and most of what they figure out they will be wrong.

    A Canticle for Leibowitz, Scy Fi novel, was based on small document fragments. Determining what “1/2 lb, pastrami” meant was a trial. :-D

    my parents lost their remote for 6 months, when they finally cleaned a room long used to just put stuff when they were done with it, they found it
    futurama makes fun of that kind of stuff all the time when the other cast members try to figure out the 20th century by what they know of fry

    They had remotes back then? I though this took place in medieval times. What’s with all the anachronisms?
