Oh, sure. Blame it on the guys with the furry toes, just because they’re different; it couldn’t be poor misunderstood Smeagol.

Now you know why they called them “cutpurses.”
I came home on the bus one day, when I got in the apartment I discovered a slit in my handbag, just below the strap. Nothing missing, but I guess they’re still among us.

I was searching for the painting (The Misanthrope) to find out what the inscription says, and I came across one called “The peasant and the birdnester”, which I’m surprised I haven’t seen here.

Click-to-enlarge image can be found here, or at the only work, by this artist, so far, to appear in Mr. Melcher’s blog.

The Misanthrope (link shows painting’s Wikipedia page, Bing translated Italian Wikipedia page has more) is shown, with a different coloration image, and described, by its current-location page (Google translated, Bing translated).

A different coloration, click-to-enlarge image can be found here, along with a description; but several different coloration, or detail images of it are available online.

The pen & ink on paper drawing (b&w image) of a similar scene by this artist is held by a Paris Art School, and a similar engraving by a follower resides here (click zoom to enlarge). The artist’s Wikipedia page (Google translated French Wikipedia page has more) and collection (many more under Subcategories at each level).

click image for description webpage, and image there for enlargement

I provided searching tips for strip paintings here. The inscription for this painting is translated in any of the (translated) page links in the 2nd paragraph, and the 3rd paragraph’s here link, in my prior comment.

Today’s painting was weird enough. This one is a real screamer (on many levels).

    Congrats!
