Tired of art snobs and their stuffy old museums? So was Steve Melcher, so he created That Is Priceless -- dedicated to taking art’s greatest masterpieces down a peg with irreverent new titles. You don’t have to be an art lover to appreciate Steve’s sticking it to the man on a regular basis – especially when that man is someone like Caravaggio, who when you look a little closer, was really kind of a jerk.

This pic is ripe for a Terry Gilliam animation.

What is it with boobs? They are in soooo many paintings of this period!

@psychlady
If there were more female painters at the time, what would they have painted?

I’m still breast feeding, but nowadays they’re dry runs (mostly).

Seeing a lady’s ankle was lascivious in those days. Boobs were “artistic” only in the proper setting. You can tell this by the fact that the nipple is sooo detailed.

Click-to-enlarge image can be found here, or at the only work by this artist, so far, to appear in Mr. Melcher’s blog.
Family Portrait is shown in its current-location page (the Google translated German page has an accompanying artist bio, but with really odd wording in the last sentence — not currently considered unquestionably regarded as the most original representatives of his profession??). The artist’s Wikipedia page (Google translated German Wikipedia page has more) and collection.

Regarding what the left hand is doing – he asks, “Your aren’t recording this, are you?”

If that’s the artist, who painted the picture?
