Tired of art snobs and their stuffy old museums? So was Steve Melcher, so he created That Is Priceless -- dedicated to taking art’s greatest masterpieces down a peg with irreverent new titles. You don’t have to be an art lover to appreciate Steve’s sticking it to the man on a regular basis – especially when that man is someone like Caravaggio, who when you look a little closer, was really kind of a jerk.

Click-to-enlarge image can be found here (with a short description), or at the only work by this artist, so far, to appear in Mr. Melcher’s blog.
Portrait of the Villers Family is described by its current-location page (Google translated), which speculates it may involve the family of Marc-Etienne de Villiers du Terrage.
The sons may have been 16 and 10 in 1790, so maybe that’s one in the background. The daughter may have been 8, so she isn’t in this. In addition to pointing to the painting itself, this points to 4 interactive detail images, and a description of what’s in the oval grisaille. The artist’s Wikipedia page and tiny collection.

Isn’t it more like “New Things Roadshow”?

“Dear, doesn’t it appear to be a tad large for a brooch?”

@finale
No, the size of everything else just makes it look big. Maybe we should buy the whole dollhouse, including the contents shown here.

Gris (grey) …..now I understand that bit but what does the rest of the word (saille, aille) mean?

You know, weed never had any effect on me…..so many others giggling and munching and me thinking “what?”

I figured out years ago that the most cost effective way to get antiques is to inherit them from whoever bought them new.

wasn’t a couple of years ago, one of their appraisers was not really appraiser. he undervalued some items by a lot, and overvalued others by a lot.
