    Truly advanced for his age, Jan de Bray painted this 50 years before he was born (according to this strip’s author). Others say it was painted in 1675. You can read about it in the first link, where an enlargement is available. Why would they to be surprised to find a painter at a meeting of painters?

    Thanks for providing the information about the paintings. I love Steve’s take on them, but I am always curious to know what the original name was – I’m afraid I’m not much of a student of art.
