If Only it WOULD happen!
We can only hope…
Could there really be signs of responsible thought slowly showing up in Congress once again?
It sure would be a nice change…less extremism from BOTH sides, and more thought of actually getting something done in the middle ground.

There is no such thing as a moderate Republican.

“Our tax system still siphons out of the private economy too large a share of personal and business purchasing power and reduces the incentive for risk, investment and effort – thereby aborting our recoveries and stifling our national growth rate.”
– John F. Kennedy, Jan. 24, 1963, message to Congress on tax reduction and reform, House Doc. 43, 88th Congress, 1st Session.

As a rather outspoken moderate progressive, I disagree strongly. I not only know moderate republicans, I know socially conscious republicans. They just want a side of financial responsibility with their entitlements. I agree with them, we need financial responsibility. To get that responsibility , we need more inspectors, regulators, and accountants to clean the books and enforce the rules. We need to charge industries appropriately for minerals harvested from public lands and we need to end subsidies for oil companies and companies who outsource jobs. These are not liberal ideas, there are many republicans who want the same thing. They have a strong concern taht we have gotten to a point where we can’t fix what’s broke without ending some entitlements. I feel we can fix everything if we put the right people to work fixing it, and I know a few good people doing that kind of work. We just need a lot more of them.
Respectfully,
C.

I agree. Unfortunately, your attitude has you labled as a RINO in the current Republican heirarchy. Until moderate Republican in the party take a stand against the extremists there can be no progress.

…of course that was FIFTY YEARS AGO!!!
Different time, different economy.
But then, isn’t that what the Republicans want to return to?

This is the year 2012, not 1963. What was the Federal income tax in 1963? Remember that $10 in additional income could throw you into a different tax bracket. Today, we have a tax that works in steps so that you pay more tax on only that $10, not on the entire income minus deductions.
I remember paying more in income tax than a sitting president and my income was in the area of $7,000 compared to his $200,000.

Hello Moderateisntleft,
Actually, I refuse to join a political party because of Geo. Washington’s farewell address where he warns us that political parties should be avoided as they will divide and weaken the nation. I am neither a Rino or a Dino. I’m Indie. :D
And I totally agree with and appreciate your reply. Thank you.
Sincerely,
C.
As a side note to ScottPM in case he sees this, I am trying to only do only 10 posts a day but wanted to reply to Mod and while doing so, I wish to agree with Scott’s comment from another cartoon that I’m know Historian. I read history, but Historian is a job and comes with a degree.
Your own posts not only lack objectivity, historic perspective, or attention to facts from objective sources, but you tend to identify yourself with the most hard right conservative ideas. And, you’re not very nice about it most of the time. I have hope for you, I have seen posts that show your potential, but your choice seems to be to attack first and reason only with those with whom you agree. I will read more of your writings over the next few weeks and see if I owe you an apology.
Respectfully,
C.

The Reps seem to be coming off of their tax high horse. Now, the Dems need to get off of their entitlement high horse.

Grover didn’t fly in the first place but they were to dumb to figure it out until they lost big.
